Sorry about the lack of a post yesterday, unfortunately life got in the way a bit...
Look for a new "Becoming a DM/GM" post on Monday.
Also, I'd like to start up a new section here on the DMs Journey, but I need your help!
I'd like to start an "ask the DM" section...
Do you have a problem you need help with? Have your PCs completely run off the rails and run amok in your world? Do you have a rules question or need help designing an encounter?
Drop me an email at thedmsjourney452@gmail.com with your questions and see them addressed right here on the blog!
I look forward to your questions and concerns!
Until Next Time,
Your Humble DM,
-Zach
Thank you so much! You won't believe how long I've been looking for a good DM help blog :)
ReplyDeleteI've been in possession of the 4e books for quite a few years now, and only recently started playing (about 4 months I think). Having read through the books so many times (without playing :X ), I had a decent knowledge of the rules and game mechaninics, so after my first adventure, which was maybe 5 sessions long, I proposed DM'ing, since our DM really wanted to play a PC. So after hours perusing through the nets for help, inspiration, and answers, I created and ran my first few adventures, the second being (I think) a lot better than the first.
I enjoyed it immensely, playing a NPC myself, since we were a small group.
I did, however, have a very hard time making the adventures themselves, speding a very long time producing an incomplete world, with only a small zone with any real regional detail, and a rather short (but quite thorough, in the sense that I basically created a tree of possible occurrences encompassing everything I could think of that the PC's could do) adventure. I must have spent at least a good 12+ hours on it, over several days. This was the second adventure.
Having moved very, very far away, I feel I should make something new, even if it is in the same world (which I wish to expand on). I do not, however, want to spend the same amount of time, which I think was excessive. I thus searched for a good blog for help, and finding your post on GitP, here I am :)
Having read a few of your posts, I can see this is exactly what I want: learning how to DM, from the very basics up; not as per DMG, which teaches you very little of actual DM'ing. The rules I know, what I don't know is how to do something incredible with them. The little I learned from observation will only take me so far, and will only help me so much.
So thanks for setting this up, and I hope you will continue to post as you are doing! I very much enjoy reading your blog, your campaign recordings as well as these instructive posts.
Also I might just send you a question sometime soon (in response to this post) :)

Edit: I posted a few questions on a 2 of your other posts (Becoming a DM/GM pars 4 and 5), since they are quite long and pertain to those subjects.
